Before Hive Tree Services began, co-business founder Michael Dawson worked on tree maintenance and removal in Melbourne as part of his father’s tree business for 13 years (1998-2011). He gained valuable knowledge and experience in the management, care, pruning and removal of trees, as well as leading teams to achieve these tasks. It was during his time as a tree climber and whilst completing a degree in bible college, that his passions grew to include genuinely caring for people, mentoring others, and passing on skills and knowledge to the people he did life with.

Mec-Tsyn (Mecs) grew up with a passion to understand, help and connect with people. She completed a science degree in the study of how the body and mind are interconnected. After her degree, she worked in community mental health for a few years. She discovered that working in close-knit team settings, together with helping people, and being in a work environment in the-great-outdoors, all contribute towards bringing out her best.

Michael and Mecs launched Hive Tree Services in 2012, with no pre-existing clients, jumping into a competitive market already filled with many other tree companies, and with a second-hand truck and wood-chipper. From very humble beginnings, our growing clientele began to take notice of our personal care and attention to their gardens, and they referred our service to their neighbours and friends. By endeavouring to understand the needs of each client, together with helping to create clearer mediums of communication, we were able to slowly achieve increasingly better results in people’s gardens.
